Evaluation of a citizen science project on urban biodiversity conservation
The VielFalterGarten project is aimed at protecting butterflies in the city of Leipzig. BUND Leipzig, the city of Leipzig and scientists from the UFZ and iDiv together invited citizens to take part. Team CoKnow was allowed to evaluate the work of the project over 4 years.
CoKnow investigated how the different project offers affected the increase in knowledge, awareness and changes in action/behaviour among the participants. To do this, we used various qualitative methods such as feedback questionnaires, group discussions, interviews and before-and-after surveys. We also used interview-based mapping tools to look at how the cooperation network between the actors developed and expanded over the course of the project.
